Midwives - Hospital Based
Certified Nurse Midwives - CNM's are licensed and regulated under their nursing license. They are the ideal primary care for low risk pregnant mothers. They can practice in hospitals, birth centers, or attend home births. They can not practice in hospitals and attend births at home in the US. This is not true in other countries. In every other country with socialized medicine midwives attend the majority of births.
Not all midwives are non-intervention oriented. You must interview and know what kinds of questions to ask to evaluate if they are a good match for you. BirthLink can help with this process please call us for referrals or to consider a birth options consultation.
To find Midwives that attend home births, please see "Home Birth Practitioners - Midwives and Doctors".
See alphabetical listings below. Please contact the practitioner directly to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions. Be sure to let them know BirthLink sent you!
SPOTLIGHT:
West Suburban Midwife Associates is a unique CNM-owned midwifery practice. We are not governed by hospital, community health center or physician employment, which allows us to give the power of birth back to the woman.... with support and encouragement from us! We utilize non-intervention therapies to promote the natural progress of labor. It is your birth, and our role is to ensure safe passage for you and your baby. See their listing below>>>
"A midwife's work means something: It prepares the woman to go through childbirth in a way that's transformative and empowering. The empowerment and self respect she learns in labor is passed on to the child in a loving relationship."
